A Place To Bury Strangers Biography

This US noise rock trio was formed in 2003 in Brooklyn, New York, with the line-up comprising Oliver Ackermann (guitar/vocals), Jono Mofo (bass) and Jay Space (drums). Ackermann had previously played with the Virginia-based dream-pop unit Skywave before relocating to New York in the new millennium, where he founded the effects pedal company Death By Audio and teamed up with a new rhythm section to form A Place To Bury Strangers. Drawing explicitly from the feedback drenched psychedelic rock sound of the UK indie scene of the late 80s, the trio quickly established a fearsome live reputation. Indeed, they were routinely described as one of the loudest bands to grace the city's stages. By 2006 they had graduated to larger venues and the following year played a support gig with one of their major musical influences, the Jesus And Mary Chain. The trio had made their recording debut in 2006 with two self-released EPs drenched in thrilling distortion and feedback. The following year's extremely limited album debut for the Killer Pimp label comprised the contents of the two EPs, minus two tracks ("Never Going Down" and "I Lived My Life To Stand In The Shadow Of Your Heart") and with one new song ("Breathe").
