Frightened Rabbit Biography

Based in Selkirk, Scotland, this indie rock band was formed in 2004 by brothers Scott Hutchison (vocals/guitar) and Grant Hutchison (drums). Guitarist Billy Kennedy was added to the line-up during sessions for the band's demo CD Sing The Greys. The album was released in 2006 in a limited edition run and received enough interest for a major label contract to be on the cards. A projected deal fell through and the trio ended up signing to the more sympathetic FatCat independent label. A remixed and remastered version of Sing The Greys followed at the end of 2006, although even in this version the band's rough-edged indie rock offered little extraneous frills. The band then completed work on a new collection of songs with US producer Peter Katis, who helped add a layer of polish to the sound of their debut. Released in summer 2008, The Midnight Organ Fight stuck close to the musical blueprint of Sing The Greys, with Scott Hutchinson's bleakly humorous lyrics of love and loss again providing the focal point. Keyboard player Andy Monaghan was added to the line-up shortly before the release of the album.
