When: August 7-9
Where: Rees-Haldern, Lower Rhine Area, Germany
What: Haldern, in the Lower Rhine area, has come a long way. It's tripled in size, has hosted the likes of Bob Geldof and Muse and has even spawned its own record label since its humble beginnings as a church concert. It hasn't over-expanded, though, and sticking with its 25-year-old traditions, it still limits tickets to 5,000 people. Dubbed the 'cosy festival', over the whole weekend you get big and new bands in intimate settings at a half the price of most of its British cousins.
Tickets: €60 (£48) for weekend tickets with camping and parking plus 10% sales fee. For people not living in Germany you have to reserve tickets through the website.
