Rockers celebrate a year since their breakthrough in style

Biffy Clyro played a brand new single at Download Festival this afternoon (June 14).

Performing in front of the largest crowds the Main Stage has seen so far this weekend, the band had a surprise up their sleeve for fans in the form of new track 'Mountains'.

Released on August 25, the track is the Scot rockers' first new material since the release of their breakthrough album 'Puzzle' last year.

A pounding upbeat rock song, 'Mountains' is among the band's loudest moments to date, with a chorus refrain of "I am a mountain, I am the sea, you can't take that away from me" which became an instant sing-along hit with the crowd.

Check the NME.COM Download Blog for the first review of the track.

Exactly a year since the release of 'Puzzle', the band moved up to the Main Stage after playing the festival's smaller Dimebag Darrell Stage in 2007. They were met with glorious sunshine for their breakthrough.

After 'Love Has A Diameter', frontman Simon Neil climbed on top of the speaker as the crowd took over vocals for the song's climax. After closing track 'Glitter And Trauma', he threw his guitar into the air.

Biffy Clyro played:

'Saturday Superhouse'
'Who's Got A Match?'
'A Whole Child Ago'
'Justboy'
'Love Has A Diameter'
'Mountains'
'Get Fucked, Stud'
'Machines'
'Now I'm Everyone'
'Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies'
'Glitter And Trauma'

Wow.... yet again Biffy come up with an interesting set. They were my fav. band up until the last album, up until they joined a major lable. Since then all the sets ive seen have been to cater for the new audience, the only unpredictability is what single old song would be thrown into the mix of puzzle songs. Biffy, please come back to the old you, the experimental, time changing you. With Reuben leaving me please give me some hope!

i hope biffy play more older stuff at T in the park and other festivals this year, i think everyone has heard enough of "puzzle"only playing 2 songs from your back catalogue is poor, the real fans wanna hear tracks like jazzy snake, erdicate the doubt and 57Mountains sounds good though
