Bloc Party will release their new album today (August 21) – just days (August 18) after the band's announced the shock release during a webchat with fans.

Titled 'Intimacy', the band's third album and follow-up to 2007's 'A Weekend In The City' is available from Blocparty.com now.

Fans can choose whether to pay either £5 for a high-quality mp3 bundle today, £8 for a CD (to be delivered on October 27), or £10 for a combined order of both CD and mp3 bundle.

'Intimacy' was recorded in two separate sessions, as the band chose to work with both Paul Epworth and Jacknife Lee on the record.

The CD release of 'Intimacy' will include additional tracks unavailable on the mp3 bundle release.

Downloaded it this morning, its a pretty solid album. Quite different to their previous stuff. Halo, Trojan Horse, One Month Off and Ion Square are probably my favourite tracks. Zephyrus and Better Than Heaven were kinda boring, and the other tracks are just kinda weird, in an enjoyable way.

What I have heard so far is brilliant. It is a massive step forward from "A Weekend In The City", which in retrospect maybe was a bit safe. But now Bloc Party are really pushing things forward again. They are truly daring when it comes to the sounds they are using, but are still totally accessible and kickass whilst they're at it. Too many pop bands are safe, stale and uninventive, while too many experimental bands forget that someone ELSE is supposed to endure their music, too. Congratulations then, Bloc Party for combining the best of both worlds here.

I wasnt too sure what to expect with this album due to their last 2 singles. I loved Flux and Mercury and thought maybe the new album would their 'Kid A' album. But Ive been blown away, this album is amazing, far better than there slower 2nd album. Once again, Bloc Party reign supreme.

Intimacy is quite good third effort. Some of the songs linger and don't really climax, such as 'halo' and 'zephyrus', where as others hit the right tone, such as 'biko', 'Trojan horse' and 'one month off'. Intimacy is definitely an introverted album, which is a slight disappointment to me personally, because i rather enjoyed Kele's views and opinions on A Weekend In the City in particular. It will be interesting to see how songs such as 'signs', 'ares' and 'ion square' will be recreated live. Some of the album is a bit too electronic for my liking, especially the drum kits, but I guess that's just me having a whinge. The songs may lack the consistency of Silent Alarm or the social statements of Weekend in the City, but its an interesting and unique outing for an band that seems to fit seamlessly into its own skin no matter what they try.

God bless Bloc Party. Against this wave of simplistic indie shit, they go and pull out some technically astonishing tracks and some of the best sounding songs i've heard in a while. True innovators of music. Who said they wouldn't make their own version of Kid A?

Its very good, but not brilliant. I personally prefer the guitar based bloc party songs and get very bored by the slower ones. I dont believe they would hold the place in our hearts that they do had silent alarm used the same formula of slow/fast/slow/fast that the last two albums have. Kele seems determined to persevere with the more experimental slower stuff even though their rockier songs are what they plainly do best. Halo, Trojan Horse and Ares are fantastic, Bloc Party at their very best. But im underwhelmed by the vast majority of the rest of it. 7/10.

ohh i do like a good ol' new direction, and i certainly adore this one. i've been a fan since a silent alarm and i can say that i am not disappointed. they've kept the spirit of their music and kept me happy.

The album is the best direction Bloc Party could have taken, with the firey Ares and Halo pleasing the hardcore who pined heavily for Silent Alarm, while the brilliant Signs is the natural progression between LCD's 'Someone Great' and the afterlife. If you had to nitpick, the later half of the album is more concerned with experiementing, so some songs, like Better Than Heaven feel more of a grind.

Good album, initially , it's MUCH more interesting than the last one, time will tell how the songs stand up, nice to have them back. Oh and this is THE way to release albums from now on.

was pretty concerned about the new album as i really wasn't convinced by mercury but have to say i'm thoroughly impressed with the new album, good way to release it, good price, no unnecessary build-up and hype. and kele, despite being quite a moany bloke, has an incredible voice. as a band they're in a different league to most of the 'indie' bands around just now. but hey, each to their own. intrigued to know who whatawasteoftime regards as being a great band?
