Kasabian set out to save the seals

Band join Morrissey's war against Canada

Kasabian have followed Morrissey's stand against Canada, by criticising the country's annual seal hunt.

Two years ago, the former Smith said he would not play the country while the yearly cull continues.

Now the Leicester band have joined calls for the hunt to end, signing Peta2's petition against the Canadian government's decision to permit the killing of baby harp seals - setting this year's quota at 275,000 seals.

"I think it's just common sense really, I mean, of course I don't think it's OK to smash a baby seal's skull," explained frontman Tom Meighan. "I'd never wear fur, it's such an ugly thing to do."

It's not the first time Meighan has shown his environmental side.

At last summer's Live Earth, Kasabian's frontman used the international platform to highlight the plight of polar bears, declaring: "I just want to tell the whole world wherever you are, save your energy! Let's put a message out there, let's try to save the polar bears so our children's children can see 'em."

Nice one Morrissey and Kasabian. We need someone like you and other bands to stand up for the defenceless baby seals that are being horribly murdered by the Canadian government's decision.

Everyone should sign that petition, the seal hunt is completely barbaric!!! Well done Kasabian, shame about the music though.

Save the baby seals and clobber an over-hyped rock band instead... like Kasabian maybe?

I am Canadian and I used to be the BIGGEST Morrissey fan. I am no long since he has banned playing in Canada. Canada is a huge Country; I have never clubbed a baby seal or even seen a baby seal. Why should I be punished for what is happening?? I hope Kasabian doesn't take the same stance as Morrissey. Your fans are good people who support you and they don't deserve this! There are bad things going on all over the world, but I suppose those markets are too big money makers to ban!

Good on Kasabian for doing this it is wrong. I know canda gets over populated with seals in this area but there must be another way of dealing with this.
