Sting, Moby support Tibet with benefit CD
Moby
Garbage, Alanis Morissette also contribute
Sting, Moby, Garbage and Alanis Morissette are among the artists contributing songs to a forthcoming CD supporting Tibet's struggle for national sovereignty.
'Songs For Tibet' is due out via US iTunes on August 5, just before the 2008 Summer Olympics kick off in China. The CD will hit stores on August 12, with proceeds benefiting the Art of Peace Foundation, which supports Tibet's exiled spiritual leader Dalai Lama.
Also contributing tunes to the mostly-acoustic CD are John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Rush, Underworld, Suzanne Vega, Imogen Heap, Duncan Sheik and Damien Rice.
"We wanted to express our support for the Tibetan people and their message of peace through music, a fundamental means of expression, at a time when the eyes of the world are on China," Michael Wohl of the Art of Peace Foundation told E! Entertainment.
The Chinese government recently imposed severe restrictions on foreign performers following Bjork's performance in Beijing at which she made a vocal show of support for freedom in Tibet, as previously reported.
