NME Reviews

Pretenders : Human

It's so bland you could use it in sleep experiments, playing it at 100 decibels to an insomniac Phil Collins fan and they still wouldn't wake up.

I can't deny I was secretly hoping The Pretenders' next release would be the extraordinary version of The Smiths' 'Meat Is Murder' performed by Johnny Marr and Chrissie Hynde at the Linda McCartney tribute
concert.
If ever there was an advert for the cultural benefits of a carnivorous diet that was it. Is it lack of protein that makes sane adults wail like dying horses? Lord knows, but that was so bad it was hilarious, so at least it registered some kind of emotional response. This, on the other hand, sounds like Texas in a coma. It's so bland you could use it in sleep experiments, playing it at 100 decibels to an insomniac Phil Collins fan and they still wouldn't wake up.
